作为世界十大艺术园区之一，798艺术区位于原国营798厂等电子工业的老厂区所在地。园区占地面积30万平方米，目前依旧保留了建厂之时由东德援建的亚洲内最大的包豪斯建筑群，园区各类文化艺术及文化创意类机构占园区总入驻机构近八成，涵盖画廊、美术馆、艺术机构、国家文化交流机构等多元文化机构及百余家艺术家工作室，每年举办文化艺术活动两千余场，其中包括毕加索、安迪·沃霍尔、莫兰迪、卡特兰等大师作品展。
作为全国文化创意产业的引领者，798艺术区已连续成功举办六届的“画廊周北京”，致力于以先锋、专业的态度建立国际化的当代艺术对话和推广平台，集中优质画廊资源，推动中外文化交流和中华优秀传统文化出海，传播范围辐射亚洲、北美、欧洲、澳洲。于2022年底开馆的798CUBE，是国内少有的完全按国际标准设计和建造的艺术场馆，致力于“艺术+科技”的融合发展，打造一个面向大众，链接国际优质艺术资源与公众的平台，在新兴科技与前卫艺术孕育的语境中启发大众，并愿意持续、深入的参与到世界范围内的艺术语境之中。
作为北京的城市文化名片及中外文化艺术交流的重要窗口，798艺术区每年吸引国内国际到访者近1000万人次，境外游客比例高达30%，200余位慕名而来的国家元首及政要到访。CNN调查显示，798成为仅次于长城的外国人来京第二目的地。“传统文化看故宫,当代艺术看798”的说法亦广为流传。798艺术区将持续致力于搭建中外文化对话、交流、互鉴的平台，让世界聆听艺术语言下的中国声音。
As one of the world's top ten art parks, 798 Art District is located in the factory areas of the former state-owned 798 factory and other electronics factories in the past, covering an area of 300,000 square meters, and retaining the largest group of Bauhaus building in Asia, which was built by East Germany in 1950s. Nearly 80% of the institutions in 798 are related to arts and creative industries, including galleries, art museums, art institutions, national cultural institutions, and more. There are also over a hundred artists' studios in 798. Besides, 798 Art District held more than 2,000 cultural and artistic activities per year, including exhibitions for art masters like Picasso, Andy Warhol, Morandi and Cattelan.
As a leader of the cultural and creative industry in China, the fair "Gallery Weekend Beijing" has been successfully held in 798 Art District for six years. 798 is committed to establishing an international contemporary art dialogue and promotion platform with a pioneering and professional attitude, concentrating high-quality gallery resources, promoting cultural communications between China and foreign countries, and taking Chinese glorious traditional culture abroad, with the influence radiating across Asia, North America, Europe, and Australia. 798CUBE, which opened at the end of 2022, is one of the few art institutions in China designed and built entirely to international standards. It is committed to the fusion of "art + technology" for the development, creating a public platform, connects international high-quality art resources with the community, inspires the audiences in the context of emerging technologies and avant-garde art, and is willing to continuously and deeply participate in the global art context.
As a cultural landmark in Beijing and an important window for cultural and artistic communications between China and the world, the 798 Art District attracts nearly 10 million visitors each year, with over 30% of them being foreign tourists. More than 200 heads of state and government officials have also visited the area to explore its renowned art scene. According to the CNN survey in 2007, 798 is the second must-to-go in Beijing which is listed after the Great Wall.
